Star Wars: Episode VIII - The Last Jedi : Will this redeem TFA and RO?

From my perspective, Rogue One was an upgrade from the Force Awakens and perhaps, Episode 8 will be an upgrade from Rogue One. They had a shaky start, if not to say a terrible start and a lot worse than the Prequels. They might find their ground soon, but they'll have to work harder than that and find people who can actually rival with George Lucas imagination. Star Wars is more than battleships.

I'd say TFA was the 'safe approach' making it *JUST* like the OT (if they's made it ANYTHING like the PT, Mickey Mouse would have been given Han's exit!)

That's unfortunate for you then. I'm looking forward to it. I loved Looper, and I find Johnson's work to be pretty cerebral compared to the blatant fan service & action/comedy trope trash that is rife in all of Abrams work.

So Johnson's sensibilities + Lucasfilm producers notes = high expectations for me. I think Johnson is intelligent enough to not do things like "I am the force, and the force is with me" on repeat, or making a film that is so self aware that you might as well have a pip of Abrams saying "hey guys, this is a Star Wars/Star Trek movie".

I think you will find its a minority that didn't like RO or TFA, the critical consensus for both is very high, likewise with the audience scores.

It was over for Lucas when he brought out the special editions and the awful prequels, the new films are superior , this is fact.

The majority actually really enjoy both films. Even on imdb, most users like both. They're not without their faults, but a minority of people would refer to either as "poorly written". The main complaint I hear about TFA on these boards is the "unoriginal" argument. And even then, I wouldn't say anywhere near a majority feel that way.

Rogue One was the first Star Wars movie outside of the original trilogy that actually served to enhance it for once and not take anything away from it.

@BlackJack254, Star Wars didn't need enhancing. And Rogue One was inconsistent and sucked. They tried to reshoot the whole movie because it sucked so bad and it still came out sucky and soiled the reputation of the original Star Wars. It was misguided and totally 100% unnecessary.
