This quite literally happened in the comics, way back in issue 170. Tony Stark was drunk and didn't remember "giving" his armor to Jim Rhodes, and went to fight him thinking he was a thief.

May be, but that whole movie is tonally out of wack and people's motivations aren't properly established. That scene in particular is emblematic of the rest of the problems that movie suffers from.

See, if it makes a good story, that's the thing that matters.

You need to remember that these are make believe characters, and they can be whatever the writer wants them to be.

Things like continuity, or due deference to the OC might matter to you but they don;t matter to me.

And even with that just because a story DOES make reference to the OC that should absolutely not be a consideration in evaluating its qualities as a story as a whole.

The drunken fight between Tony and Jim helps explain how Jim got the suit itself, it also helped Tony begin to realize he was behaving like an absolute dickhead.

Same thing happened in the comic books. Iron Man got completely hammered, Jim Rhodes took the Iron Man suit (red and gold) to go fight a bad guy, Tony Stark woke up from his drunken stupor, saw someone in an Iron Man suit flying around, grabbed another suit he had and went and fought Jim Rhodes after getting hammered again.

After they were done, Tony realized that he was an absolute mess, and it would be best if he stops being Iron Man and let Jim Rhodes take over.

Continuity doesn't have to be perfect to me either. I didn't throw a hissy fit when they made Obidah Stane Tony's best friend and business partner, versus in the comics when he was basically a Lex Luthor clone who ran his own company. I didn't care that they combined the Crimson Dynamo and Whiplash together for Iron Man 2. Hell, I wouldn't have cared if in Iron Man 3, the Mandarin was being portrayed as Osama Ben Kingsley in the trailers if it had been more than a set up for a giant, absurd joke about a drunken British guy who farts a lot.

1) "Martha" enough has already been said about this.


2) Every aspect of the portrayal of Luthor. That was a rich Joker, not Lex Luthor.

3) Batman's logic for attacking Superman in the first place "He's not bad right now, but he could be eventually, so let's go kill him"

4) The villain of Suicide Squad. So boring.

5) Clark's dad dying for literally no reason. Lol it's almost comic like dude, just WALK away from the tornado.

There are many more but those are my top 5 most hated. I actually did not mind a reimagined Joker who is a tad more modern.

MCU

1) Pepper NOT dying from the fall in IM3, would have made the final fight much more compelling, gotten rid of a rather boring character, gotten rid of an actress who has voiced fatigue with the MCU, and would have given Tony GREAT motivation for signing in Civil War.

2) The final fight scene of Thor 2 so campy and cheesy.

3) The look of Dormammu in Doctor Strange I mean great visuals throughout but I thought the movie industry had already learned the lesson about giant floating bad guy heads. Guess not.

4) The boring formulaic first half of season 1 of Agents of SHIELD, wow that was terrible. Fortunately it got way way better, although I think it peaked in season 3 (not a huge Ghost Rider fan).

5) The waste of the Leader in the Incredible Hulk. But perhaps this will be remedied later :)
