Nutty Professor II: The Klumps : I thought Sherman lived in an apt.

In the first movie, Sherman had what I thought was a neighbor who lived downstairs from him. When he was loud, Mrs. Wilson was banging on the roof. So I assumed he lived in an apartment. Also, when Buddy had the wild party Sherman got an eviction notice. However, in the second movie, Sherman is clearly seen driving up to a house that looks exactly the same indoors as in the first movie. So did he live in a house in the first movie? If so, was Mrs. Wilson living in his basement?
