well i know that someone has been hired to write a script and apparently angelina has shown interest.

She's been showing interest for five years. Face it, guys, she's done with the franchise. Expect a darker, cheaper reboot in a few years.

Mitra's gorgeous, but she can't act to save her life, and she's boring as hell. If they recast Lara, they should go with someone younger, in their mid-twenties like Angelina was when she started. I'd hate to get a TR trilogy, only to have a forty-something Lara hamming it up.

i think the new girl Alison Carroll could do it. She's a gymast so she can do the stunts and she already Lara Croft for the game so why not the movie and she's 23, so if it's good there could be more.

There will never be another Tomb raider film, however I do agree with a previous poster that if it does come back it'll be some very cheap bargain bin type film. I think its a tragedy as the first film was sublime and played out in such a way that they made an unbelievable character very believable, they created a world you wouldnt mind being a part of, and then Jan de bont came along and killed it off for good, that and I believe Angelina got a bit too big for her boots by the second film and hammed it up whereas in the first film I loved her. If they did make another it would need the crew from the first film i.e d.o.p and Simon west as the director, but it'll never happen.

Honestly, I think Tomb Raider failed because it just doesn't have box office pull. Look at Resident Evil: those films are successful because they aren't all that expensive to make, and the producers are realistic about the kind of box office they'll bring in. Whereas Paramount was throwing money at TR like mad, thinking they had another Indiana Jones on their hands.

Tomb Raider didn't fail at all. In fact, it remains the highest grossing video game adaptation flick ever, and doubt anything will change that any time soon as that movie has more mass appeal than most video game flicks could manage. The original Tomb Raider grossed nearly $300 million. Even the sequel did about $156,505,388 and that was on a smaller budget than the first movie. That's still more than the last Resident Evil grossed.

Apparently they are rebooting the franchise without Jolie, which I honestly not too upset about.

It failed to find an audience, and the sequel didn't do nearly as well. (Counting American box office. Worldwide any piece of crap will make its money back.) They were also huge critical bombs, the second notorious for its "people actually fly" quotes in the ads because they couldn't find anyone who had something nice to say about it.

I'd say Jolie would still be good for the role of Laura Croft considering she had a hit with Taken, and critical success with Changeling. Her Tomb raider did excellent business, and even the second turned a profit. It is time to inject some new blood into the franchise, so I'd go with Mitra, who can act very well as seen on nip/tuck.

I just read the same article. It is a horrible idea.

The Tomb Raider films may not have been very good (the first one was a decent video game adaptation) the idea that they will "completely reboot the video game-based character" is asinine.

Why bother?

If they're going to change her origin story completely by - as they speculate - shying away from her English aristocracy roots - then why bother making a "Tomb Raider" film?

That would be like making Mario from Mario Bros a Peruvian cook in a new Mario film.

Her origins are not the problem with the film - nor should they be changed - because there's no reason for the change. A bad film would still be a bad film regardless of whether or not she's an aristocrat or not.

Just another case of Hollywood being bankrupt for trying new ideas.

Sounds to me like they want to get away from her wealthy, aristocratic orgins because everyone's supposed to hate rich people these days. Very silly of them.

Either do one with Jolie or don't do it. It's similar to doing Indy without Ford. I would not be interested but I would be if Jolie would be involved.

I don't see how that's similar. Ford was Indy was from day one. Jolie was the fifth or sixth person to pretend to be Croft.

Jolie was the original in the films. Maybe I feel this way because I wasn't really into the video games. I saw the film before I played the video games. Just my opinion.

Angelina was definately the original Lara imo Some poster girls who were just employed to advertised the game and such do not count.

Yeah, film-wise, she is. I can't see it without her and if they brought in someone else, everyone would be comparing her to Angelina.

There were six main games before Jolie came along. Even discounting the models (people are friggin' obsessed with Rhona Mitra for some reason), the character existed in people's minds LONG before her, so the Indy comparison still isn't apt.

The Indy comparison also isn't apt because the Indy films are classics while the Tomb Raider films were poorly recieved generic garbage. Jolie is easily replaceable.

They should never make a movie with a new actor as Indy. I remember young Indy on tv but ford is Indy. This isn't James bond where you get a new actor every decade. It wouldn't work

Jolie was the perfect choice in the early 2000s but there is nothing iconic about this role or movies. The fun in a guilty pleasure kind of way. I wouldn't say she would be easy to replace but it's very doable.
