I Need To Know : Curious how many of you/us..
Re: Curious how many of you/us..
I'm not sure if my account will even be relevant after the 20th, but I rarely come here to read the actual movie/actors' pages. Like others have said, you can Google most information and find it elsewhere. I come here and go directly to the Message Boards, and maybe will stray back to the Facts or an actor's bio, but those are after-thoughts. Very highly doubt I'll use this site going forward. Such a huge disappointment.
But if it can be deleted, I'll do it in order to contribute to the protest, even in a minute way.

Re: Curious how many of you/us..
I will still be on IMDb and logged in. I'm thinking about backing up other users' lists for fear that they'll delete their own lists which they have the right and power to do.
Re: Curious how many of you/us..
If they still have the watch list and rating systems then there will be a few things that the accounts can utilize.

Re: Curious how many of you/us..
For me, it's the opposite. I come to IMDB all the time for info, and only occasionally visit the boards. Although once in INTK, I would often stay for hours. Gonna miss it! As for my account, I have a ton of films on my Watch List, so I guess that's useful.
Re: Curious how many of you/us..
I used to rate films and keep track of them using IMDB. But I feel this is a huge betrayal to its loyal users and will use RT from the 20th on to check out movie info. Trying to see if we can get something going at this web site for message forums as it has great potential:

Re: Curious how many of you/us..
Thanks that looks like a good site.
Re: Curious how many of you/us..
There are a lot of good sites to get information. As far as I'm concerned no massage boards no IMdB.
Re: Curious how many of you/us..
Please check out this site to replace the message boards. The JUST implemented the message boards so it is a work in progress but it looks like a good replacement for IMDB:

Re: Curious how many of you/us..
I've thought about it long and hard over the past few days and there is really only one way to save these precious BoardsMEDIA ATTENTION.
If any one out there has any contact or influence with the Media, especially Television and even Radio to get the word out before it's too late, that's what needs to be done.
Trust me, IMDb, and especially Amazon do NOT want to be in the world public eye.
I urge you to use your resources, I'm sure someone out there reading this has connections. Even if you don't.pass the word around.
It will work

Re: Curious how many of you/us..
I'll probably keep my account alive for sentimental reasons. But I'm not sure how much I'll want to use this place without the benefit of also visiting message boards.
For me, looking up movie or TV show information went hand-in-hand with then going straight to the board to see what people were saying about that show or movie. Or if it's hard to get hold of now, someone would have a post saying there was a DVD, but only an Australian release or something like that.
It was just as informative to visit a title-specific board as it was to look at the info page. Sometimes people would clarify precisely where the location was THAT was fascinating to me. People posting that they know the house or street or town. I have one of those myself.
Now that all that will be wiped, I don't see myself coming here. I'll just click on Wiki.

Re: Curious how many of you/us..
I agree completely. The message board for any given film is where you went to find out about its reception history and how it affected the people who have seen it. It's where you could ask questions about something you didn't understand. All of that is what made IMDb more than just a reference site. It was an interactive living history.
And it was a place to go to interact with like-minded people. It was comforting to converse with this one other person around the world about a movie 90% of everyone else thinks is bad.
Perhaps Col is right that only a small portion of members actively use the message boards, but I bet most members will miss them when they are gone.

I bet they are not taking into account how much traffic the message board members produce. Without a doubt they have a bigger footprint on this site that the guy who created an account and has been to the web site every once in a blue moon to look up a movie. I am not saying just saying this because I am an active member of the message boards and I will miss it dearly but I think they are making a HUGE mistake.

Re: Curious how many of you/us..
In a way, our best hope is that they have indeed underestimated the board popularity, as the sharp decrease in visitors to the site will prompt them to reconsider their actions.
Re: Curious how many of you/us..
I've been thinking about this too. I guess I will still rate movies/shows and I still have my watch list.
However, I have made a large number of lists also and now I don't expect anyone to see them unless they happen to be one of the 3 or so that show up in the sidebar on any given page.
Up until now people would go to my page by clicking my name on the message boards. They could see all of my ratings and explore my lists if they were interested. All that will be gone.
I guess if one of my lists is relevant to a conversation on another board I can post a link to it.

Re: Curious how many of you/us..
You'll need be logged in to rate a movie and provide a review, if that is your wont.
As for you can just google and get the same results, no you can't. Some things, but the search engine will pick up a lot of things you can't get by googling. It is a very sophisticated thing, although there are glitches. You don't need to be logged in, though, to use the search engine (I think).

Re: Curious how many of you/us..
I suppose that some will login for reviews/ratings. But without the boards, IMDb will no longer be FUN.

Re: Curious how many of you/us..
I came here not for the community forums unless needed A I need to know title but rather the discussion boards for specific films or program or actor.
Re: Curious how many of you/us..
I'm not going to delete my account, but I've already found a place to move on to that I personally feel could be a very nice alternative to here, so no, I won't be coming back.
Gee, how easy it was to dump IMDB the way they're dumping us

Re: Curious how many of you/us..
I'll keep my account in case they bring back the boards, but I've already deleted all of my reviews and lists and ceased all contributions. I haven't decided yet whether to delete my ratings, but I'll certainly not be rating anything else. I've been using other sites to look up general information about movies ever since the redesign a few years back anyway, so I won't be coming here at all unless the boards are restored.
Re: Curious how many of you/us..
I would say I will visit this site about 10 percent of what I do now.
When I visit this site, I go straight to the boards about 90 pct of the time, And I don't post that often compared to most of you I suspect.

My question is: Will there even be a need for an account? Wont all accounts be a moot point after the 20th? Will we still need to log in for any other purpose? Anyone know?
Thanks!
