Drop Dead Gorgeous : Every character made me laugh

Every character made me laugh

I can't think of any other movie where every character, even the smallest roles, made me laugh

the Pork Products commercial lady, the tractor girl who was president of the Lutheran Sisterhood Gun Club, all of the contestants vomiting, the silent judge, Lisa's brother who wasn't even there

Re: Every character made me laugh

This movie is FACKING HYSTERICAL!!
LMAO!!! Hank...OMG!! When he gets stuck in the truck door..."Harold, Help"
Harold (his dad): "Next time you drink paint thinner I'll leave it in ya!"

Re: Every character made me laugh

I agree - there isn't a single performance that I want to fast forward over. They're all good, even the walk-on roles. The obviously crooked cop who insists that there's nothing the least bit suspicious about Tammy exploding on the tractor, or Amber's trailer blowing up. Even the fireman who's standing there when Amber gets home: all he says is "Are you family?", but it's the fact that he's smoking a cigarette while putting out a house fire! Makes me laugh every time. The boss at the funeral home, the mayor who keeps swearing about the Shriners and their stupid Frieda sign... everyone makes the place come alive in the weirdest way.

Flat, drab passion meanders across the screen!

Re: Every character made me laugh

The whole point of the film is that it is not so much the situations that are funny as the characters themselves. And you are right: they are all utterly hilarious.

I also like the little things that get slipped in, that are not so apparent the first time round, but that you notice when you see the film again.

E.g. the fact that Loretta can, on several occasions, be seen in the background with a guy that is dressing (implying that she has sex with anything that moves).

Or the pork products commercial lady saying she grew up right next to the stock yards, implying she's "from the wrong side of the tracks."

Becky's mom, during the pageant, saying she was in the pageant herself, seventeen years ago. Well, Becky is seventeen this year, implying her mom was probably pregnant when she participated!

Etc etc - the whole film is full of this sort of little subtle twists and turns.

Incidentally, if you liked this film, you will also like "Best in show," which is about dog shows rather than pageants, but follows the same mockumentary format, and once again it is the characters themselves that are hilarious rather than the plot (most of the dialog was in fat improvised).

And that's why she never went to State - she had to drop out after winning the local contest, and has never gotten over it.

Of course, Amber's mom also competed in that pageant, and Amber is also 17, so it looks like BOTH girls got knocked up at the same time. Only Gladys managed to marry the local rich boy and poor Annette was deserted by her one night stand and left to raise Amber by herself. ("Once a carny, always a carny!")
