I Need To Know : SOLVED Man has to spend millions and not own a thing in the end - COMEDY

SOLVED Man has to spend millions and not own a thing in the end - COMEDY

Hi,
I'm looking for a movie I saw long time ago

It' comedy, form 90s or early 2000s (possibly even 80s? I'm not sure)

Main hero is this guy - your typical looser
he has something to do with baseball? not sure if he's player, trainer or just fan - not so important

he inherits lots of money - millions and millions
but to teach him value of money (or something like that?) he's given condition

he's given part of money now (as I said - huge amount, millions) but he has to spend them all and not own a single thing in the end of certain period of time
he can't tell anyone about this or he won't see the rest of his inheritance

there's exact percentage of what he can give away to charity and so on

of course there's some love story thrown in too - some woman who tries to stop him from spending so filthy much he falls in love, but he can't tell her why he's doing it and so on

but the thing I remember is this - he buys this really rare, very expensive stamp
(it's even in tv because it's so rare) and the people who should check on him - whether he meets given condition - are all laughing - like they've finally got him - because he now owns the stamp and condition says - he can't own anything - and now they don't have to give him rest of the money
but then they receive postcard from him - and he used this super expensive stamp on it to send this postcard
I remember I found that hilarious.

I believe that there's happy ending.

Any idea what is this movie called? All the help would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

I have not failed. I've just found 10,000 ways that won't work.

And this is exactly why these message boards are invaluable. In five minutes I can get answer to the question that was bugging me for years.

Thank you so much!

I remember the movie looking slightly differently but probably that's just my memory acting funny. I do believe this is the one I was looking for.

Thank you one more time! You really did help me and I appreciate it a lot.

I think there was a similar movie years before same concept, maybe even similar title. Ah from the trivia page on the 1985 Richard Pryor movie: Seventh big screen adaptation of George Barr McCutcheon's 1902 novel "Brewster's Millions". It's the eighth if one counts the 1954 Indian Telugu movie adaptation Vaddante Dabbu (1954). Since this 1985 Brewster's Millions (1985), two more Indian versions have been made [to date, August 2013]. The earlier English language versions were made and released in the following years: 1914 (lost), 1921, 1926, 1935, 1945, and 1961, with this 1985 Brewster's Millions (1985) version launching about twenty-four years after the then most recent version from 1961. All these English language films were called "Brewster's Millions" except for two, 1961's Three on a Spree (1961) and 1926's Miss Brewster's Millions (1926).
