The Insider : The Oscars raped this movie!

The Oscars raped this movie!

SEVEN nominations???

-Best Picture
-Best Actor (Crowe)
-Best Director
-Best Adapted Screenplay
-Best Sound
-Best Editing
-Best Cinematography

NOT. ONE. SINGLE. WIN.

Unbelievable.

Re: The Oscars raped this movie!

Agree x1000 times over.

Re: The Oscars raped this movie!

Agree two Thousandth.

Couldve easily won for director, screenplay, editing, Cinematography.

Doesnt make sense. It had big time actors as well all giving great performances.

Oscars werent the only ones either.

They werent respected at the box neither.

Re: The Oscars raped this movie!

Unbelievable indeed.

This is easily Russel Crowe's best role ever. His Gladiator Best Actor Oscar almost felt like a make-up Oscar.

Makes you wonder how much politics and bribes and who knows what else influenced the judging. How many more people would've seen this movie had it swept most of the categories (editing, picture and best actor easily should have won and possibly soundtrack)

Re: The Oscars raped this movie!

Make no mistake, his Gladiator Oscar was a make-up Oscar.

cheers.gif

Of all the awards this film DIDN'T win, I think for me it's screenplay that hurts the most (aside from Pacino not even being nominated - insane)

Maybe big tobacco bribed them out of it. jk. haha.

Re: The Oscars raped this movie!

I watched this movie as soon as it hit the video store and for some reason fell asleep! I guess it had been a long day and I didn't have time to watch it again and left it alone for 10 years (or however long it's been now). Tonight I came home dog tired and and put it on planning on falling asleep again. Boy was I in for a surprise!. It just might be in my top twenty list of great movies. But I digress from the topic (sorry). I absolutely agree; the Oscars really missed on this one. I haven't checked to see what else was up for awards that year so MAYBE there were some better nominees, but for Pacino to not get nominated for an Oscar, or any other awards for that matter, is a travesty. Russell Crowe was great, no doubt about it, but it made me remember what a truly great actor Pacino is and I found this to be one his best. His portrayal of Lowell Bergman was that of the greatest salesman on earth. I felt every iota of his belief in the importance of the story at hand and could understand completely how Wigand became willing to sacrifice so much for Bergman's vision. How in the world did the award givers of the world not see what I did?

Re: The Oscars raped this movie!

IMHO the Oscars are BS. I would rather rely on the posts to IMDB - at least we all get a say. A Great movie, the more so because it is (largely) a true story. Fantastic casting and sterling performances from Pacino and Crowe.

Re: The Oscars raped this movie!

Newsflash: Oscars have nothing to do with quality; it's all about politics. Why else do films like Crash win best Picture? They USED to mean something even into the 80s, but not after that.

For who would bear the whips and scorns of Hollywood (;-p)

Re: The Oscars raped this movie!

If the film is great I don't think it really needs an Oscar or any other award for it to be acknowledged. If enough people like and rave about it that's acknowledgement enough. Seriously who needs an award at the end of the day from a bunch of bloated, puffed up movie insiders telling the rest of the world what's the best? Not to try and come across as cleverer than I am but It's plain common sense to not take these awards ceremonies too seriously. At the end of the day the whole thing is really just a glorified contest of ego's. It might be entertaining to watch but It's all pretty shallow and vacuous.

Re: The Oscars raped this movie!

As amazing as this film is, and make no mistake, it's amazing. It was up against some pretty stiff competition. American Beauty is, imo, a better film. It's far more creative and original. Ball/Mendes deserved it.

The Matrix winning technical awards is pretty much a lock. It's still the defining sci-fi film of this generation.

The only award listed that I would put up for debate is Best Actor. Although Kevin Spacey is phenomenal as an actor and in AB, I think Russell Crowe delivered a Magnum Opus performance as Jeff Wingand(even better than Gladiator).

Re: The Oscars raped this movie!

Nice reply to the preceeding query where the writer stated he did not remember what the Insider was up against. Hats off to this entry for updating us.

Re: The Oscars raped this movie!

Best lead actor? Yes.
Best editing? Maybe. Probably.
The rest, no.

Re: The Oscars raped this movie!

I find it difficult to argue with anything you just posted.

Personally, I think American Beauty is a great film.

But I feel The Insider is the greater film, and deserved the Oscar wins for Picture, Director and Best Actor (and at least a nomination for Best Supporting Actor).

Just my $0.02.

Re: The Oscars raped this movie!

It's the same story as all those years when Scorsese was getting jobbed at the Oscars - The Insider was too good to win.

Re: The Oscars raped this movie!

I'm rewatching it now because I loved Russell Crowe in this and I didn't like him in Les Miserables. I want to be reminded of how good he could be.

He certainly should have gotten the Oscar for this.

Re: The Oscars raped this movie!

Can you please look up what rape means, I think you mean screwed.

Re: The Oscars raped this movie!

Why? It happens a lot. Besides the 1999 year in movies was huge! So many good films didn't win anything.

Re: The Oscars raped this movie!

I've seen this movie a million times (love it), and can't help but think Christopher Plummer should have got a supporting nod for his portrayal of Mike Wallace. Brilliant stuff.

Re: The Oscars raped this movie!

Is everyone just pretending that The Green Mile didn't happen this year?

I bet Insider didn't even come 2nd in a lot of these categories.

Amazing movie, but given the competition that year I hardly think the word rape should be thrown around.

Re: The Oscars raped this movie!

I think you mean robbed or you don't know what rape means.

And hm no. Crowe is about as credible as a scientist as he ever was when he doesn't play a dumb thug with a heart of gold (a part he really should have been restricted to)

It definitely wasn't a best picture, regardless of the competition it had. It's slow, it's limp and the only reason it is "interesting" to some people, is because it was a "true" story. There is nothing original or interesting about the script. It's like "reality tv" with celebrities. A reenactment of a tv interview surrounded by a lot of boring "thriller" scenes and OMG IS HE GOING TO GET KILLED??? moments where of course you already know nothing is going to happen sleep.gif

The editing was a particularly low point of the movie. And if you don't think so, you know nothing about editing.

Re: The Oscars raped this movie!

I was just reminded the movies battling that year. My God what a year for movies. Matrix, American Beauty and Insider.

I love Insider but i think Oscars got it right with American Beauty and Spacey. Just insane that Pacino didn't get a nod for supporting actor that year.

Re: The Oscars raped this movie!

I agree.

Ditto for Christopher Plummer.

Re: The Oscars raped this movie!

At least neither Bill Cosby nor Harvey Weinstein had any involvement in said raping, so it could have been much, much worse.
