I Need To Know : Any chance of getting IMDB to change their minds on this?
Re: Any chance of getting IMDB to change their minds on this?
Not much chance of that.
Someone on this board suggested a mass deletion of IMDb accounts after they close the boards, and I'm going to do that. I'm also going to close my Amazon account at the same time.

Highly doubtful. Nobody has even addressed the petitions, looks like this decision has been in the pipeline for a while and they've already well and truly made up their mind.
In protest I have installed BlockSite so that I don't accidentally wind up at IMDb and add to their traffic. I aim to start this from Feb 20th.

Re: Any chance of getting IMDB to change their minds on this?
1. I'm sure at first they're not gonna delete anything. They'll just "hide" the forums from people and watch the reactions. If in one month the outrage won't die down, they'll return it back to normal. But I'm pretty sure there won't be any serious outrage.
2. They contradict themselves almost in the same sentence. First they say "you can't get anything positive" anymore on these boards, but then they start blabbering about traffic and how costly it is to keep these boards on (not costly at all, in reality).
Does anyone know if the moderators are not paid? 'cause if not, then they almost have no expenses assosiated with these boards.

Re: Any chance of getting IMDB to change their minds on this?
Will the boards be only hidden in some manner in which they can be brought back, or actually willfully, wantonly, and irrevocably destroyed?
By the way, it's still a week until closure and I am already having trouble. Even if I had time to go through my 2,000 or so posts made over 17 years, decide which to copy and paste, and do so, I can't, because it's not letting me see my boards profileeven to possibly list only titles of threads to which I postedlet alone contents of each post! Also, on the Community Boards, sometimes it is letting me open and read messages, and sometimes not.

Same.
Re: Any chance of getting IMDB to change their minds on this?
I keep getting error messages.
That's because they can't resist screwing with things. Some overpaid consultant tells them that some part of the site is outdated and that they should change it to increase its commercial appeal and the entire programming staff falls all over themselves to "update" features that previously worked just fine, breaking things in the process.
Remember the horrible site redesign several years ago? That one that cluttered up all the pages, jumbled all the information together and got about 90% negative reactions from the users? I'm confident that the only reason this was done was because someone looked at the site and decided it wasn't flashy enough.
Everyone I've shown the old and new designs to has agreed that the old design is much easier to read and find the information you're looking for.

Re: Any chance of getting IMDB to change their minds on this?
My guess is the error messages are the result of everyone hitting the site at once trying to save their stuff, or that guy who claims he is copying all site contents.

You underestimate their arrogance and stupidity.
They don't give a flying fvck about us users.

Re: Any chance of getting IMDB to change their minds on this?
It's seems like a waste to me that, rather then deal with the few troublesome boards with some moderation, they are instead going to nuke every message board on the site. Especially when so many of them have their own perfectly fine community's.
If enough of us complain is there any change they'll change their minds?
Not a chance in hell.
They view this web site purely as a business. The boards are being nuked because they don't see any commercial value in them. If they suddenly thought that the episode listings for TV shows weren't making them any money, they'd delete them without a second thought.
Users only matter to them as eyeballs looking at their ads and as contributors helping to increase the commercial value of the site by adding information to the database. Beyond that, they couldn't care less about any of us or what we want.
