24:Legacy pilot preview- "It does what it does really, really well".

4: Legacy is our first reboot, and Fox’s strongest candidate for a series pickup.

We open in a D.C. setting among ambitious politicians and the counter-terrorism unit. The pilot loses no time in introducing its new Jack Bauer: Eric Carter, a war vet trying to live an ordinary life. His past catches up to him when terrorists seek him out after killing most of his friends. Carter goes on the run, and soon finds himself burdened with preventing a large-scale terrorist attack on American soil.

24: Legacy isn’t trying to break new story ground. This setup is familiar. We’ve seen several protagonists with wartime backstories this pilot season alone (MacGyver, Lethal Weapon, and oddly, Zoobiquity). Pairing Carter with his female handler Rebecca Ingram rounds up what I like to call the “Bourne Setup” (see Taken).

In spite of this initial familiarity, it’s hard not to be won over by the pilot. It’s comforting. Its USP is its cold-blooded efficiency. It does what it does really, really well. The tension never lets up. The plotting is intricate (discernible A through E stories). The writing is far better than the pilot for 24: Live Another Day, which hesitated to spend too much time away from Jack Bauer.

We’ve got a ticking clock strong enough to power an entire 24-hour period. A compelling central mystery. Effective cliffhangers. High stakes that are relatable. Two central relationships in deep trouble. Several characters’ lives in jeopardy. Future betrayals have been setup. An excellent end of show cliffhanger that feels organic and earned.

Considering Fox’s stated goals for the fall, it’s hard to imagine 24: Legacy not getting picked up to series.

Sounds good,if people actually go into this with an open mind rather than being upset over Kiefer they might enjoy it..

Re: 24:Legacy pilot preview- "It does what it does really, really well".

Yeah, you're not a studio plant, and anyone who goes into this with an open mind is no 24 fan.

Re: 24:Legacy pilot preview- "It does what it does really, really well".

I don't really understand why some 24 fans don't want to give this show a chance. I'm certainly going to watch it, and 24 is among my favorite shows. I want more of it. If they can even create a show 75% as exciting I will be happy.

In the future, I'll tell my grandkids that I am older than the internet, and blow their minds

Re: 24:Legacy pilot preview- "It does what it does really, really well".

Nonsense. Give us some real resolution for the iconic main character you created, then maybe we can talk about moving forward without him. As it stands, any version of 24 sans Jack Bauer is a complete insult to the fanbase. They're essentially wasting millions of dollars to spit in the faces of the people who made their careers. It's a complete joke, and 95% of us aren't going to stand for it, so they'll get the message one way or another.

Re: 24:Legacy pilot preview- "It does what it does really, really well".

They won't give resolution if Kiefer keeps changing his mind about coming back to do more. But they should just kill him off so people like you would be happy to get some closure I guess.

But his story has played out enough for me. It got a little too rinse and repeat for me. That's probably why ratings dropped hugely in season 8 and were down to less than half of peak for season 9.

I'm ready for a new great character to evolve with the same show format. I thought Cory Hawkins was great in Straight Outta Compton. I hope you guys miss out on something great.

Exactly why you close out the character's arc... and start new with a different character.

Don't keep with these lame cliffhangers.

Melodramatic nonsense. You're like one of those idiots who say things like "so-and-so raped my childhood."

95% of us aren't going to stand for it

And that's an entirely made-up stat which you have no way to back up.

Re: 24:Legacy pilot preview- "It does what it does really, really well".

I agree that the OP is very obviously a plant and I have grave doubts about the series being any good. That being said, "anyone who goes into this with an open mind is no 24 fan" is elitist garbage. Anyone who goes into it with an open mind is a 24 fan if they enjoy 24, regardless of what you may think. Plus, it's just a freakin' TV show.

Re: 24:Legacy pilot preview- "It does what it does really, really well".

anyone who goes into this with an open mind is no Bauer-wanking fanboy

FTFY. Can we stop pretending that the later seasons of 24 were any good, or that the show's greatness (or lack thereof) depends on putting Jack Bauer through the wringer once again?

This is my signature. There are many like it, but this one is mine.

Re: 24:Legacy pilot preview- "It does what it does really, really well".

To be honest, I don't care about how absurd the show got since season 6. I would watch 50 seasons of Jack having to stop terrorists in Los Angeles.

Re: 24:Legacy pilot preview- "It does what it does really, really well".

Yeah, sorry OP but you do look like a plant, seeing how this is your first post, and you have a link, and it's all positive etc.

If this is a reboot, who in the hell would have any interest in it anyway? At the very least, it should take place within the original 24 universe. Also, the lead actor Corey doesn't have the right face for the role, and looks too effeminate, which will be off putting to the fans, especially for the main character.

Re: 24:Legacy pilot preview- "It does what it does really, really well".

It does take place in the same universe.

Re: 24:Legacy pilot preview- "It does what it does really, really well".

Reboot means remake, lately...

Re: 24:Legacy pilot preview- "It does what it does really, really well".

Wish I was a plant, would help me through University.

Anyway by this point Jack can't go anywhere else, granted they should have concluded his story better but the character can't develop any further. Here's everything Jack Bauer has done or had done to him over the course of the series.

They've killed every single love interest he's ever had(bar one)
Pregnant wife was executed
Had to kill two of his co-workers
Has tortured multiple people
Endured being tortured for 2 years
Kiss the woman who killed his wife.
Killed his father.
Tortured his brother.
Pretended to execute a mans family
Developed a meth addiction
Kidnapped and interrogated the President of The United States
Has survived being contaminated by deadly nerve gas
Has killed over 300 people on screen.
Came close to killing the Russian president and causing WW3.
Has prevented WW3 on several occasions.
+more

Where else can you possibly go now? What misery can you add onto him? Like Kiefer said, it would become a parody if they were to continue further. Chances are Jack will make a cameo anyway.

Re: 24:Legacy pilot preview- "It does what it does really, really well".

Maybe they can allude to how he killed himself due to PTSD or depression or something to give everyone closure who needs it.

Re: 24:Legacy pilot preview- "It does what it does really, really well".

I wont be giving 24 another chance until it somehow tries to conclude the story of Jack, and also Tony, before moving on.

Both their stories have been left EXTREMELY OPEN ENDED and they must give them better closure before starting a new story...otherwise it will inevitably fail!

Re: 24:Legacy pilot preview- "It does what it does really, really well".

Hopefully Jack, Chloe, Tony and other existing characters will appear, and they will resolve their story lines from LAD and Solitary.

Re: 24:Legacy pilot preview- "It does what it does really, really well".

Have to agree with you, they really do owe it to the fans who kept the series alive and running strong for as long as it went.

Leaving it open ended as the series finale... and then again when you created a mini-series specifically to give the character closure really is insulting.

At this point, I'd settle for a Wayne Palmer style of explanation via a newspaper headline.

Re: 24:Legacy pilot preview- "It does what it does really, really well".

Everyone who is worried, Jacks story won't be closed. It will be at some point. Kiefer has stated he is open to returning to 24 Legacy to close Jack's chapter of 24! Manny Coto revealed they plan on bringing Jack back at some point and Tony as well. Tony may very well appear as well! Same with Chloe and other former characters.

24 Legacy, is a spinoff that takes place in the same universe as 24! 24 Legacy is not a reboot! There was no corporate mandate by bringing 24 back from Fox. Fox actually said to the writers to take it slow, careful and only proceed with 24 Legacy if they felt they had a story fans would love! So any characters that are alive can return at anytime.

This is an expansion of the 24 universe where they are trying to establish a new world of 24. Once the new characters are establishes, old favourites will come back. There is even a decent chance for a 24 movie or TV movie of 24!

24 Legacy is will be relatable to today's culture as well just like the original 24! And Fox knows they have to work extra harder to make 24 Legacy live up to the success of the original!

Kiefer Sutherland signed on as Executive Producer and has stated from season 1 that the real star of 24 is the real time format, the ticking clock, adrenaline, awesome story telling, great characters, suspense, action, tension, cliffhangers, edge of your seat viewing! Its called 24 because its about an adrenaline race against the clock to stop a devasting terrorist attack. Jack is just a character made by the writers who fans loved. The writers can create another loved hero as well! Kiefer said the 24 Legacy script is cool, fantastic, phenominal! Also the Pilot had great reviews from critics and advertisers were raving about it at the upfronts!

Kiefer played Jack for 204 episodes and wants a break as the lead. He felt how many bad days can one character have before the show becomes a mad comic? Kiefer is all about protecting the Legacy of 24 and Jack, and never wants to damage it or ruin it. Kiefer would not sign up as Executive Producer for this if he knew it was bad. Kiefer is not about money what so ever. The writers will have creative freedom and won't be so liberating for them to write for one character!

Its either we find out what happens to Jack through 24 Legacy or no 24 ever again! Take your pick!

Also its only 1 installment Jack is potentially not in. Corey Hawkins is a great actor, having went to the best acting school, was on Straight Outta Compton and Walking Dead!
People will say after watching Legacy, they want more Eric Carter! 24 Legacy will be so much better than Bourne Legacy and do not judge 24 Legacy from one trailer when episodes 2-12 have yet to be written or filmed and promoted!

Also all the original writers who made 24 a big success are back! Manny Coto, Evan Catz, Howard Gordon, Brian Grazer, Robert Cochran, Joel Surnow, Jon Cassar, Stephen Hopkins, Dana Walden and Gary Newman! These writers are the best creative team ever! They also have a new writer named Nikki Toscano to bring in new fresh ideas

24 Legacy will have a new CTU, will be about the potential to activate new sleeper cells and radicalize Americans and take place in Washington DC! They got the idea of 24 Legacy inspired by Seal Team 6. This is relatable to today's times! 24 Legacy will be more modernized.

Also it took Jack Bauer 4 years to return after season 8. Season 8 ended in 2010 and Jack came back in 2014. Jack Bauer will be back in 24 Legacy by 2018, 4 years after 24 Live Another Day season 9. 24 Legacy is a whole new chapter, new evolution of the series and a fresh start! This will last a very long time!

Howard Gordon has stated the plan is to bring in Jack's cohorts for 24 Legacy! If successful the second season and so on will have 24 episodes every year again!

24 Legacy will be fresh, engaging and compelling! This will be fantastic!

24 Legacy will find a whole new audience, keep the old fans and current fans as it premieres after the superbowl. Also Fox will promote the hell out of this during the Fall, World Series, and football playoffs in January!

So do not write 24 Legacy off just yet! Give it a chance! Its okay to love Jack Bauer, but there are other heroes out there who deserve a chance too.

Re: 24:Legacy pilot preview- "It does what it does really, really well".

I'll treat it like any other show which is not on CBS. If it's good I'll watch it, if it's bad I wont.

Since CBS doesn't care about quality, and cancels good shows like Limitless and Keeps garbage like Scorpion ( and it does that a lot) I don't get involved in new CBS shows anymore.

Re: 24:Legacy pilot preview- "It does what it does really, really well".

It's on Fox.
