Horror : Various efforts to continue this community

Various efforts to continue this community

There's an IMDb Horror Board Facebook group:
https://www.facebook.com/groups/383080958735617/

Another group specifically concerned with maintaining the Horror board community here:
http://thehorrorboard.com/

There's a more general effort to continue the IMDb main boards (including this one) here:
http://imdb2.freeforums.net/

List any others in this thread. The clock is ticking.

Re: Various efforts to continue this community

For TE, have you seen the IMDB clone yet?

I collect dead pigeons then I press them between the pages of a book.

Re: Various efforts to continue this community

Yep. Looks cool! 👍

Re: Various efforts to continue this community

Looks like everyone is going to wind up in different groups.. We're like the lost tribes of Kolobus...And someday in the future, after near total destruction we'll all regroup and look for a Lost tribe, on a planet called Earth.

"I made it up. There is no Earth."

😨

Re: Various efforts to continue this community

More seriously, though, it would help if we worked together so that as many as possible end up somewhere known. Efforts to publicize these successor groups have been attacked here and removed. That's definitely not helpful.

Re: Various efforts to continue this community

I think everybody's pretty been successful at promoting various websites. It's amazing to see how lots of folks are pulling together to organize. I don't know if trolls were the actual problem with IMDb but maybe if enough of us had mustered together and put in the same effort to thwart trolls things might have been different.

Oh well, I intend to bump around those forums you already listed, one of them is bound to take off...

Maybe they all will. I haven't been around the Horror board as much recently but for many years--most of the years I've been on IMDb, this was my home here.

Re: Various efforts to continue this community

Yeah I signed up with the fake IMDB except I think it is too cluttered with too many unnecessary sub-forums and it has no content, that was the draw with IMDB. Plus, feasibly, they could face legal copyright problems which could result in complete shutdown leaving all those users stranded again.

AlamoScout210

Re: Various efforts to continue this community

That was my impression as well and, in fact, I'd say those legal problems are practically inevitable. The Facebook group uses "IMDb" in the title but it's simple enough to change that if it ever becomes an issue. Changing a replica of the entire IMDb system would be a lot more trouble.

Re: Various efforts to continue this community

Yes agree with you too. Plus a replica of imdb can just become another paradise for trolls.
I have so far joined 3 boards. I could manage 2 but more than that isn't interesting certainly not when all of these are for discussing horror.

Re: Various efforts to continue this community

Wow, what a bummer that this is getting shut down. I have found so many cool films through this forum and other film-specific boards. But very cool that people are finding ways to support the community.

Re: Various efforts to continue this community

It really is irreplaceable. Not just the Horror board but the entire system. There's nothing like it on the internet.

Re: Various efforts to continue this community

So far I'm seeing a lot of people I recognise spread between thehorrorboard.com and trashepics.com. I think of all the boards being mentioned I will likely sign up to those two.

I will join it just to see how it goes. Maybe it can prove me wrong but my experiences haven't been good with fb groups.

Re: Various efforts to continue this community

When I first started using Fbook groups, I was used to the message boards and I felt like a fish out of water. To an extent, I still do--I've never adjusted to the discouragement of longer-form posts, for example. Fbook encourages quick, one- or two-liners, not necessarily any sort of in-depth commentary. But some of that is in the way people choose to use it too--no reason people couldn't use it differently.

Re: Various efforts to continue this community

Well I like the facebook group too but as you said it's often oneliners and not in depth discussion. The format just doesn't allow for much text and images.

Re: Various efforts to continue this community

I really don't know who you are, but I have also signed up at the facebook imdb horror group and you seem to have some friends there cause I've seen your name popping up asking about you....just thought I'd let you know...

Re: Various efforts to continue this community

I book marked all of those listed in the first post, I am going to Trash Epics, hopefully you guys will migrate there as well, the other boards listed look like they were made in the 1990s, no offense.

Re: Various efforts to continue this community

I've gone to all of them listed in this entire thread. Many of them replicate the entire mainboard structure of IMDb, sometimes even its look, and all of those are probably going to be taken down by IMDb on intellectual property grounds.

Most have joined both TE and the horrorboard. No offense but TE's board is not that fancy looking either.

Re: Various efforts to continue this community

Posted earlier, but looks like it was deleted, so I'll reply here.

A bunch of former IMDB horror/FG boarders and I are reviving our old message board, The Lost Cinephiles, as a place for people to come and talk about films, especially horror, after IMDB's boards shut down. We'd love for you guys to join us! We've been working hard for the last week getting the place spruced up and all of the old posts archived. Former members are already starting to post, so come join the discussions, or start your own. I'm really looking forward to re-connecting with everyone. :)

Re: Various efforts to continue this community

I'm on Trash Epics and thehorrorboard.

As for Facebook? Never again.

CG gore is the worst thing that has ever happened to the horror genre.

Re: Various efforts to continue this community

I'm here and a member of the Facebook group.

Yes, this is really me.

Re: Various efforts to continue this community

When IMDb was about to fold, I went around assembling a list of all of the successor projects. I've tried to keep it updated with new entries and knocking off the ones that failed. It's here:
