Anyone read and liked all these books?

Count of monte cristo
Dune
War and peace
Mody dick
Madame Bovary
Portrait of a Lady

I haven't read any of these yet, so I don't need no spoiler. Thanks.

Re: Anyone read and liked all these books?

NO? ok

Re: Anyone read and liked all these books?

Of your list, I've only read DUNE.

It was several years ago, but I remember enjoying it.

And the movie is awesome too.

Re: Anyone read and liked all these books?

I think it's rather hit and miss in some areas, but overall, I enjoyed it.

The Count of Monte Cristo
- bit boring and tangential at times but those bits always tie-in in wonderful ways and are completely justified. It's a genuine masterpiece, a wonderful book.

Dune
- the first third is fantastic. Amazingly creative and broad but with some deep characterisation (Lady Jessica is my favourite female character in any genre work - a dinner scene told from her POV is absolutely brilliant writing).
The latter two thirds though I felt were a bit rushed, a bit too light on details. It's rare I finish a book wishing it were longer but I thought this could definitely have done with another 100 pages.
Quite liked it on the whole though.

Re: Anyone read and liked all these books?

Read "Dune" (the whole series) when I was a kid, before the movie was made. It was OK, not one I've had the desire to read again. The movie, I didn't really like much.

Re: Anyone read and liked all these books?

I read and liked the first three.

Re: Anyone read and liked all these books?

I read the Great Illustrated version of Count Monte Cristo couple of years ago.

Re: Anyone read and liked all these books?

I've only read Dune. Love it, one of my favorites. Read the whole 6 book series and put it among the best I've encountered (although it is uneven.)

Re: Anyone read and liked all these books?

I haven' read Dune. Probably won't either.

Liked them all;

Moby's a bit of a long haul if you bother with all the non-story stuff about whales. You'll see what I mean if you read it.

W & P is superb in so many respects; I'm planning to read it again soon.

Madame Bovary is wonderful & Flaubert's prose is beautiful.

Portrait I can't remember a huge amount of, but I've never read a boring James book.

Count of MC is just great fun.

So, in answer to your question, no.

Re: Anyone read and liked all these books?

The first part of Monte Christoe was good, but the next one was a struggle to get through. I'd take The Three Musketeers by the same author any day. Dune wasn't too bad.

It`s far easier to start a war than to end one.

Re: Anyone read and liked all these books?

Count of monte cristo --good but a bit draggy
Dune -- didn't like it at all
War and peace -- well written but a major chore to get through
Mody dick --A classic, but out-and-out boring
Madame Bovary -- great book
Portrait of a Lady -- a bit tough to get through but great book

Re: Anyone read and liked all these books?

Ok, I am now reading Bovary and then portait of a lday and then moby dick. My local library only carried those books out of the six ones.
