My Cat from Hell : If something doesn't work, just get rid of it.
Re: If something doesn't work, just get rid of it.
It frustrates me to no end when I hear people on this show, usually men, say that. When you take in a pet, you make a commitment to that animal, for better or worse.
Re: If something doesn't work, just get rid of it.
I was watching an episode with I believe a mother and daughter. It was the daughter's cat and the mother was threating to have the cat euthanized. I freaking lost it! I was screaming at the TV and saying why don't we euthanize your dumb a$$. I was so angry I could barely contain myself. Honestly!
Re: If something doesn't work, just get rid of it.
I have always had my animals until they died. Unless I couldn't care for them I would never give up a pet.
Re: If something doesn't work, just get rid of it.
Obviously you don't have any actual children for you to say stupid things like that.
A cat gets away with more misbehavior than any other animal in a home is allowed from what I can see.
Most of the stupid people on this show don't show enough emotion over the fact that their cat has attacked someone or their own childif a dog bit someone it's hardly debatable and no one arguesbut because a cat attack is never going to become fatal in most cases it's "just something to work on"?
If my cat attacked someone let alone my own kid, it's being put down without questionand if you don't take that action then YOU have no business owning any animal or should cut yourself off from all human interactionyou cat people need to wake upthey are pets that are lucky enough to live under our roofs and get free mealsend of story.

It's not stupid at all. There are parents who do absolutely horrendous things to their children every day.
I think it's dangerous to get rid of a problem pet without trying to fix the problem first because the pet is usually the canary in the coal mine that is acting out problems already in the householdjust as children often do.
Take the repeat I'm currently watching. Frankie pees and poops everywhere, has done ever since the wife started popping out babies in short succession and Mom decided to move in to "help," bringing her own enormous cat with her. Jackson gets in there and the house is utter chaosmess and squalling toddlers everywhere. Plus, the husband is a neurotic nutjob with a very short fuse who screams a lot, while the wife looks vague and disconnected.
I mean, it's the kind of family you see on Nanny 911.
Gee, I wonder why Frankie is freaking out? It sure is a mystery. I wonder if the kids might also be acting out a lot in ways that should be addressed, too. Hmm. Maybe we should fix this situation instead of ditching the big red flag of a distressed cat that is telling us something's wrong in this hot mess of a house.

Ridiculous, the straws you'll grasp at just to distract from a nastily behaving pet.
Your post show empathy for the pet, very little for the humans, especially the husband, in your little hypothetical scenario in which pets are the victims.

I'm quite sure that I talked at a fair bit of length about how misbehaving pets are often a sign of human dysfunction in the household that should be addressedspecifically, children. People who are treating their pets poorly are often also treating other household members poorly. Case in point: Tonight's episode, in which the kids were very poorly behaved due to the parents being ditzes. It is also a well-known phenomenon that one of the ways abusers control their partners or children is to hurt or threaten their pets.
Where the hell you got from that an excuse to launch into a whackjob personal attack on a complete stranger I don't know, but it sounds like you're the one with the agenda and issues, not me.

You nutty cat ladies (I'm not talking about all cat owners, just a certain kind) show no empathy for people, just pets. Even bad pets. Especially bad pets, because you love it when they attack people, whom you hate. Your little story is a smokescreen. You have no feelings for people.
What about the episode where a sweet five year old is being scratched and attacked by a cat and his parents let it go on? Not one of you cat ladies stood up for that kid. You either attacked me or you kept silent. Here's the thread:

Admit you just don't care about that kid.

Re: If something doesn't work, just get rid of it.
Look at your choice of words:
popping out babies
squalling toddlers
the husband is a neurotic nutjob
The last one is my favorite. Cat ladies hate grown men the most, of all humans. Men are the root of all evil.
Oh, it's DANGEROUS, is it? To whom?
If a household has serious problems, the last thing on anyone's mind should be the pet. Let's keep things in perspective.

Re: If something doesn't work, just get rid of it.
Boy I just love this one. Blanket statement concerning "cat ladies" which is BS. The one thing that stands out in your posts is that you should never "own" a cat or any other animal.
Re: If something doesn't work, just get rid of it.
I said that "cat ladies" was my term for a certain kind of cat owner, not every cat owner, nor even most cat owners. Therefore it is not a blanket statement. Did you miss that? Take some lessons in reading comprehension.

It's just here to attack animal lovers. And especially has an ax to grind against poor cats. Any passerby would see immediately the seething hatred oozing off that creep.
I do like some animals, they just don't happen to be the animals you like, Zzyzx. Which for you is, apparently, any cat at all. And you probably don't like some of the animals I like.
Agreed? What makes your favorite animals superior to my favorite animals?
Re: If something doesn't work, just get rid of it.
People that are not able to show empathy for an animal most likely will never be able show empathy for a human.

Empathy doesn't extend to an animal that attacks you. Do you have empathy for mosquitos? They're just trying to get nourishment for their eggs after all. Or do you swat them?

not true!
I will kill anything anyone for my saftey of my child!

I agree with you of course AJ, and I should add that a cat attack may not become fatal, but it could be dangerous, especially to a child. I had a friend whose baby was scratched in the face by the woman's cat. If the scratch had been slightly to one side, the baby could have lost an eye.
Wait for some moron to say that the cat never meant to scratch the baby's eye. But probably they will keep silent as they do whenever a good point is made, because they have no good counterpoint. Except to wail that those who disagree with them are cruel and heartless.
Re: If something doesn't work, just get rid of it.
I don't think putting humans and cats on the same level helps your argument at all. It comes off as extremism. You can love your pets and all but if you care more about them than your own children I say something is very wrong. Also poor kids!

Finally, some sane and balanced people make their appearance here. It's about time.
Re: If something doesn't work, just get rid of it.
Something tells me you have never had kids. You cannot comment of being a parent if you have never been one.
Re: If something doesn't work, just get rid of it.
I had to have my 14 year old cat put to sleep last November. Very mean cat. Did not like to be bothered at all. But she did like to cuddle with me when I slept. She would run from me and hiss at me when I got home. Mainly did not like you to be towering over her. But loved to cuddle when I lay down. Bad attitude most of the time but she was my cat and I loved her personality for being different for a cat. Devastated after I had to get her put to sleep. But glad it was me that had her rather than some bastard that tossed her out because of her attitude.
If something doesn't work, just get rid of it.
