The Twilight Zone : Final Destination Movie

Final Destination Movie

I wonder if the producers/writers of the movie Final Destination got there idea from this particular Twilight Zone episode. Some of the elements are similar, such as the events that happen before she changes her mind about boarding the plane and then the plane exploding.

Re: Final Destination Movie

Ha! I was just thinking that. I know there are tons of movies that lifted directly from TZ. Little Girl Lost is a direct influence for Poltergeist, for example.

Re: Final Destination Movie

Yeah that's another episode that they got there idea from and there's another episode where a doll is possessed and starts terrorizing a family, don't know the name of the episode but it'seems probably where they got idea for the movie "Child's Play."

Re: Final Destination Movie

Goodness there are so many influences. The Long Morrow reminds me so much of Interstellar, the idea of time dilation ripping apart a relationship. Nervous Man In a Four Dollar Room is VERY similar to the underlying idea of Fight Club. Five Characters in Search of an Exit is Cube. The honest car salesman one is Liar Liar. There are so many.

Re: Final Destination Movie

I agree. And with me, I always saw the modern movies first, and then the Twilight episodes and saying "oh, that's where they've gotten thier ideas from".

Re: Final Destination Movie

Yes me too! Im in the US temporarily, and when here I always try to cram in some episodes via Netflix as we dont get it in the UK. Today I saw Dust, and Im pretty sure the ending seeded the idea for the climax of the book (and film) Perfume: Story of a Murderer. Also, yesterday I saw the one with the guy against all the machines, which felt like Stephen Kings Maximum Overdrive (also the typewriter moment felt like The Shining, typing out a repetitive phrase). It would be fascinating to head into a Twilight Zone where Rod Serling hadnt created it, and see how many film titles are missing from the shelves!

I have such a deep level of respect for Serling. Bank notes should say "In Rod We Trust".

Re: Final Destination Movie

It shows how people were so much better at coming up with original ideas. Today, everybody just wants to copy. I have a list of so many such movies. Even the Simpsons have copied the TZ numerous times.

Re: Final Destination Movie

I, too, saw many of the movies this show "supposedly" inspired before having seen the show itself (or at least most of the episodes), so I've certainly had my fair share of "so this where they got it from!" moments. If there's one episode that made me certain it was responsible for a movie's existence though (besides Little Girl Lost), it is definitely Twenty Two. The first time I saw this episode's ending, Final Destination IMMEDIATELY came to mind.
