The Cooler : Which year was it based on?

Which year was it based on?

Me and my grandparents examined this thought. We're thinking it's the 1980's. they have this kind of smooth jazz with old cars. Although there were some new cars in the mix. There were no cellphones at all. We're thinking it's the 80's.

Re: Which year was it based on?

Well remember the name of the casino was The Shangri-la, so the casino itself was caught in an ideallic time warp, which would explain why things felt dated inside and yet there were modern cars outside.

Yeah!

Re: Which year was it based on?

It is present day, as Shelly is shown getting into a 2001-03 Lexus LS430 near the end. Great cars.

Re: Which year was it based on?

Yeah, I felt it must be close to the present day (at the time the movie was made - early 2000s, in other words). The idea of making the Shangri-La sort of "family friendly" was not a novel one. It felt as if this was an attempt to play catch-up with the big casinos on the Strip, which had already gone in this direction. The Shangri-La was a holdout from the old days, so inside it felt sort of 1980s and a bit rundown.

Flat, drab passion meanders across the screen!
