Religion, Faith, and Spirituality : RFS Quotes of the Week

Re: RFS Quotes of the Week

Reason: an intent to draw a conclusion.
Faith: a conclusion that is unjustifiably held true.
Logic: an intent to draw a true conclusion.
A leap of faith: an intent to draw an unjustified conclusion

Re: RFS Quotes of the Week

Wait a minute - is it the OP's contention that if you are offered money or similar in return for sexual favours... then you are a prostitute regardless of whether you take them up on the offer or not?

Re: RFS Quotes of the Week

Have you read her original thread?

She turned him down AFTER giving him ( a stranger ) a blow job.

Re: RFS Quotes of the Week

Have you read her original thread?

Not really. After you posted this thread I skimmed through it looking for the word "whore", and I read the OP itself, and it was after that that I posted my previous post here. If we are to take her words at face value, she was pressured into giving head once, for no financial gain whatsoever. When such arrangement was offered at a later point, she turned the offer down. So however you wish to view the situation, it does not fit into the category of prostitution.

Re: RFS Quotes of the Week

I posted the quote for the quote's sake and not whether it was true or not! sheeeesh!

That is the whole point of this thread, to post 'gems' for whatever reason that are often lost in the context of the wider Board.

Re: RFS Quotes of the Week

I posted the quote for the quote's sake and not whether it was true or not! sheeeesh!

And I replied for the quote's sake - not whether it was true or not.

Re: RFS Quotes of the Week

The OP has claimed that she was manipulated into giving sexual favours and it was not with her true consent. She was crying all through.

Re: RFS Quotes of the Week

If you believe that Monica is a real person/poster and not a troll, and she really is a young woman trying to find somewhere to live, des it not strike you as strange that, upon being propositioned for a blow job ( for less rent or not) that she didn't turn around and walk out the door? ( optionally reporting him to the authorities if he illegally constrained her which would be sexual assault)

Did you also not read my comment about the reason the quote was included was the amusing phrasing and weird conflation of ideas and morality in the whole situation!

Actually, not so strange at all. It is easy to say what one would do in such a situation ("oh, I would just so and so"), but when you find yourself in a situation unlike any you have been in before, one for which you have not planned, one for which you have not been taught how to handle, it is really a dice throw how a person will respond. Some might walk away, others might storm out of the room, some might get verbally abusive, some might get physically abusive... but some, due to their nature of being less assertive and/or wishing to avoid conflict, might stay and perhaps try to mediate... or allow themselves to be pressured into doing things they didn't actually want to do. Some people are more prone to become victims than others.

Judging others using yourself as a reference guide only gets you so far - there are all sorts of people in the world.

Re: RFS Quotes of the Week

Read my last post.

Had I wished to have judged Monica I would have answer such in the thread.

I merely quoted something quirky and weird she said.

It is YOUR idea of assigning judgement from me to this post. You miss the point of the whole 'quotes' thread.

I don't give a sh!t that she gave some dude a blow job, except that if it truly was under duress, she should have reported it and not told us all on an anonymous message board in such a wierd and amusing way!

Re: RFS Quotes of the Week

i just replied your previous post. And no, people(especially women) get bullied or forced to do such a thing in real life without their will. Such a thing is not unbelievable.

Re: RFS Quotes of the Week

get OVER it!

All I did was quote something unusual and quirky! ie the point of this whole thread.

Re: RFS Quotes of the Week

All I did was answer your post according to content of that post.

Re: RFS Quotes of the Week

She wrote the content.

Talk to her.

Re: RFS Quotes of the Week

I addressed your post [She turned him down AFTER giving him ( a stranger ) a blow job.]

You should have added that she was crying while doing that act and it was not as per her will.

Re: RFS Quotes of the Week

She wrote the content.

Talk to her.

And you posted this thread. And this is the thread both he and I are addressing, based on what you - rather than Monica - wrote. I don't see by what right you should get so indignant by our responses when the whole purpose of your thread here was ridicule. When you replied to me, and to AJ, we gave you straight answers based on what you wrote, offering no insults of any kind. Would you have preferred we respond to you in a similar fashion to how you chose to respond to Monica?

Re: RFS Quotes of the Week

I was ridiculing the phrasing. look at my first post to her.

I am over this...you have clearly missed the whole point of a thread of this type.

Re: RFS Quotes of the Week

I was ridiculing the phrasing. look at my first post to her.

I see nothing wrong with the phrasing, given the context.

I am over this...you have clearly missed the whole point of a thread of this type.

On the contrary, I believe I called it for what it was in my previous post. You even confirm it here.

This is the last post I am making on this topic.

Sweetpea, it was not meant to be a denigrating reflection on you personally, just amusement at the way you phrased it!

Look at the date stamp.

I thought it was quirky and amusing and I still do, especially knowing Monica (?whoever she is... by the naïve 'blonde' way she posts - yes I am 'blonde' )

Re: RFS Quotes of the Week

Your attitude to this is incredibly dodgy.

Taking her story at face value, you're bordering on victim blaming.

Re: RFS Quotes of the Week

Take it to the appropriate thread.

This thread is about 'interesting quotes'.

You are OT.

Re: RFS Quotes of the Week

I'll post what I want where I want.

Re: RFS Quotes of the Week

Sure, and see how much answer you get from me.

Re: RFS Quotes of the Week

I got one already.

You're still victim blaming whether you choose to ignore it in this thread or the other.

Re: RFS Quotes of the Week

Case in point against global warming (though global warming climate change advocates will say it is), Hawaii experienced snow this year. Snow = cold. Global warming = hot.

As such, I will repeat my statement from before. If the problem is global warming and global warming leads to snow in Hawaii (or a massive ice age - as depicted in The Day After Tomorrow), then problem solved.

Quyst, on debunking climate change because it snowed in Hawaii.

I'll have to paraphrase since I suck at searching post histories...

"My existence wasn't caused. I'm merely the result of a random sperm meeting a random egg." - Goz

Re: RFS Quotes of the Week

That's a knee-slapper.

Imagine what would have been lost if Goz's father had rolled over in bed and squirted that random sperm all over the wall.

Re: RFS Quotes of the Week

..apart from being a gigantic idiot, you are uncouth.

Re: RFS Quotes of the Week

...and true, except that my mother wanted another child and my father didn't...except in principle this is how we all start...as apart from IVF it is one huge game of chance!

Re: RFS Quotes of the Week

You continue to confuse cause with intent.

Re: RFS Quotes of the Week

True, it was just trivia!

Re: RFS Quotes of the Week

True, it was just trivia!

Fun fact: You are not an uncaused cause. :P

Re: RFS Quotes of the Week

Well, if you think God caused me...think again!

Re: RFS Quotes of the Week

Well, if you think you caused yourself...think again!

Re: RFS Quotes of the Week

Luckily I don't think that!

Re: RFS Quotes of the Week

Right, you just think you weren't caused at all. lol

Re: RFS Quotes of the Week

Yes.

I happened by chance, as did we all, except for IVF and even then there is an amount of chance involved.. otherwise it would be successful 100% of the time.

Re: RFS Quotes of the Week

You continue to confuse cause with intent.

Re: RFS Quotes of the Week

No, there is a definite difference.

To cause is

cause1

There is another definitions of intent that are relevant to something like the beginning of a life

I actually think you are using 'intent' in an application as to how life begins due to

"Intent" is the set of dynamic states and/or static structures in a system that are necessary to achieving an identifiable outcome, because you attribute intent to a God or Creator. The Creator has an intent to cause a life to be created.

I don't believe that, and though I hesitate to use the word random owing o it meaning in this sense

ran¦dom
[ˈrandəm]

ADJECTIVE
made, done, or happening without method or conscious decision:
"apparently random violence"

whilst a life starts without an intent on behalf of an outside force or creative power. there DO, however required many prerequisites to align and be in place before a new life can start, and it is chance when and whether these factors are conducive to start a new life or not.
