Jaws : Need to get it
Re: Need to get it
I couldn't care less about something so irrelevant. Can you not just love the film without having your taste seemingly mocked by the cinematic preferences of people you don't know?
Re: Need to get it
Couldn't agree more. Nobody in their right mind gives a rat's ass about "beans" and numbers except maybe a chef with OCD
Re: Need to get it
I think it would be hard to find a (good) chef without OCD, but you're right all the same!
Re: Need to get it
You know I actually thought about that, but then said to myself, "Eh, it works well enough as it is, so I'll leave it alone!"
Re: Need to get it
My fella is an ex-Naval chef but I could never accuse him of being OCD (or a chef)
He's more than capable but on board he was basically a self-confessed "cabbage mechanic" lol. He chucks *beep* into pans of existing *beep* but it tastes great (mostly). If you want lean cuisine then I'm your best bet

Re: Need to get it
Well, in that event a tip of the old Dixie Cup to your feller.
You know, Ive heard now and again over the past few years that one of the best culinary training programs in the country is actually run by the U.S. Navy. There was a retired military challenge on Chopped earlier this year, and the Navy culinary specialist was like, Oh hell, I got this. The boat I was on our mess crew had to produce quality meals 3 times a day for anywhere between 900-1,100 people. That the food was technically correct, tasty and well-presented was the only thing that mattered.
The only time OCD should kick in if you think about it would be if the Admiral of the Fleet were aboard. (Hey Charlie, youd better adjust that arugula leaf about a degree to port, or the big boss will throw your ass out that little round window on the side. Scuttlebutt has it hes less than thrilled today.)
Cabbage mechanic, you say? Ill bet he makes a mean slaw.
Lean cuisine? Well, if that consists of a medium-rare steak, baked potato with butter and sour cream laid over a bed of mixed greens with a couple of hot buttered yeast rolls on the side, that works for me. (Damn the calories - full steam ahead I say!)

Re: Need to get it
Hi Doug!
Haha great post! Yes I guess he does make a mean slaw but the so do I Not that there's any competition. I am not passionate about cooking but am doing a small spread tomorrow evening and he's doing the Christmas dinner which pleases me no end lol
I love my steak - you need to try stilton sauce one day - just a plain white sauce and then lob in a whole wedge of stilton! You haven't lived until you try my stilton sauce! Bit naughty to go "overboard" but you can serve four with it! As you say, damn the calories! Merry Christmas to you me hearty!

Re: Need to get it
Let me see Stilton - that's the cheese you end up with when you cross a nearsighted lovesick moose with a Devonshire ewe, right? I've heard a horror story or two about Stilton cheese over the years.
So when it's time to eat, do you use a boatswain's whistle to summon the chef?
Merry Christmas to you both as well!

Re: Need to get it
Haha I love stilton even though it is haklf mouldy
Got a nice selection in this year as it goes. I've also stocked up on the coated aspirins - not for the hangovers but to prevent a coronary haha!!
I have a dinner bell to summon the chef

Re: Need to get it
Well, yeah I guess a dinner bell would be a better idea. A boatswain's whistle fired at close range might be a bit rough on the ears.
It does sound like you're pretty well stocked and ready. I leave you with wish of a Merry Christmas and this reminder: "Well, the sign says 'Captain's Mess' so I'll let him clean it up!"

Re: Need to get it
Haha well Merry Christmas, Chief! My father was a Major (British Army) but was never in a mess other than that where they drank gin and played snooker until the real play-fighting kicked in! The Sergeants Mess has nothing on the Officers Mess when it comes to bad behaviour
All the best me old mucker from the cabbage mechanic and I Bottoms up and all that jazz!!

If you open the kitchen on the twenty fifth of December, it's like ringing the dinner bell for Christ's sakes!

Re: Need to get it
Well I gave it a 9 years ago. I would have given it a 10 but the shark did look a little dodgy at times, but considering this was made in the mid 70's I think that can be forgiven. The rest is near perfect.
