Saturday Night Live : have they ever done an episode like tonight's before?

have they ever done an episode like tonight's before?

I'm 31, so been watching a bit over 20 years. But of course as a kid, some political stuff went over my head, or I found it boring. So my question is directed more at older people, or those who have made it a point to watch a bunch of the old episodes.

I doubt the whole episode tonight will be Trump, but I'm guessing it'll be heavy.

So my question. Has it ever happened before, where there was someone who wasn't an official cast member, who became known for frequenting the show playing the sitting president, and then hosted, especially this quick after an unpopular one's inauguration?

Please, this isn't meant to be a post about getting into politics one way or the other, just a question about the history of the show.

Re: have they ever done an episode like tonight's before?

No, this hasn't happened before. And the cast and crew seem to have confidence in Alec Baldwin's ability to host, as he also carries a record number of times hosting.
I hope for a Steve Martin cameo.

If you want to hate something, go to imdb.

Welp, they're definitely going to tee off on Trump. I think Baldwin has weakened his SNL appeal by doing his Trump impressions so maybe tonight won't be as great as it normally would have been.

Shall we play a game?

Re: have they ever done an episode like tonight's before?

No. SNL is blazing some real nasty trails. All the power to them. They wern't cutting the mustard with comedy, so they found a new way to drum up ratings. TV is first and foremost a business.

The early ep of Alec's they showed tonight was pretty hilarious. He used to be one of the best hosts the show ever had.

<Goodbye friends. This community was the best thing ever.>

Not a president but Larry David hosted last season after already playing Bernie Sanders a couple of time.
