Laverne & Shirley : Carmine 'The Big Ragoo' Ragusa

Carmine 'The Big Ragoo' Ragusa

is it me or is he THE WORST SINGER I ever heard

Re: Carmine 'The Big Ragoo' Ragusa

He sucked.

Re: Carmine 'The Big Ragoo' Ragusa

My thing was that he let Shirley lead him on so long.

Re: Carmine 'The Big Ragoo' Ragusa

He sucks? You are all obviously tone deaf.

The man is and was another Tony Bennett for pete's sake!

He even looks like the guy.

If Eddie Mekka's career wasa bit better,
I'd tag jhim for playing Tony in a biopic.

Re: Carmine 'The Big Ragoo' Ragusa

My ears hurt from his singing. "TONE DEAF" wish I was when ever he sung.

Re: Carmine 'The Big Ragoo' Ragusa

Maybe not the worst singer ever, but I find his singing voice annoying. In fact, the Carmine character was boring and annoying with his singing and tap dancing. But that's just me.

Re: Carmine 'The Big Ragoo' Ragusa

His voice is a tenor and tenors tend to be a
bit 'loud' but they're supposed to be ...a little anyway.

It's called 'emoting'.

Re: Carmine 'The Big Ragoo' Ragusa

Why was he called The Big Ragoo? He's this little pipsqueak. I have to laugh at how they are always trying to make him out to be a tough guy.

Re: Carmine 'The Big Ragoo' Ragusa

I loved that in last night's episode (on MeTV) Squiggy told him (and I'm paraphrasing here) "I hate that you call yourself the Big Ragoo"
I think he is trying to overcompensate for his size.

I believe you answered your own question. He called himself big because he wasn't.

Why not "Big Ragu" if his name was Ragusa. I don't think they wanted to endorse the spaghetti sauce which was around in the fifties. Ragù is just the Italian word for meat sauce.

I don't believe 5'4" Shirley had much respect for guys shorter than she was. Eddie Mekka and David Lander were both 5'3".

Re: Carmine 'The Big Ragoo' Ragusa

Garry Marshall had a childhood friend who went by that nickname. I'm guessing that's where he got it from.

I Love Vic Morrow

Re: Carmine 'The Big Ragoo' Ragusa

Yep, not a fan of that style of singing it is dime a dozen to me.

Sometimes a movie or tv show plot is so stupid that only the stupid can understand it.

Re: Carmine 'The Big Ragoo' Ragusa

I seen him a few times on Laverne & Shirley but I thought he was quite the little dancer on an episode of Family Matters and quite funny with the way he talked. As for the actors career, he seemed to have done all right appearing in something almost every year since after Laverne & Shirley ended 33 years ago. Perhaps he didn't want to be a very big star.

Hey to each their own, that's what these boards are for, after all. 😃 But I found the character incredibly annoying, and his dancing/singing what have you was when I switched the channel.

That being said, he does seem to have done all right for himself, and that's great. I hate it when you read about some of your old favorite characters (like Erin Moran from Happy Days) who seemed to have gone on a downward spiral once their hit show ended. I'd rather read about people doing well.

Re: Carmine 'The Big Ragoo' Ragusa

Oh God I remember reading about Erin Moran and her flashing her boobs and acting a fool. It's sad that she really didn't have a career after Happy Days ended and goodness she aged so much hard to believe that she was a young girl/lady on the show and she's only in her mid 50's.

Re: Carmine 'The Big Ragoo' Ragusa

What he did was shouting, not singing. It was awful and I hated his character.

Agree... Especially when he sang live ("You know I go from rags to riches") Most of his singing was prerecorded.
