Tyler Posey is a producer on the show. Can't he ask the writers to…???

Can't Tyler ask that the writers actually do something with the Scott character? this season Scott seems EXTRA pointless/useless/etc. i admit i don't know how the tv biz works but since Posey is listed as a producer for the show, does he have any say/input on at least his character? what does a producer do? i guess i honestly have no idea.

He's not executive producer. And the only one who gets input on his character is Dylan O'Brien.

(My perspective is as someone who lives in Hollywood and knows numerous producers and other crew)

A producer can have any of a number of jobs: from securing the financing that keeps the show afloat, to persuading network execs to trust the direction of the storytelling preferred by the creative departments, to publicly promoting the show, to babysitting challenging cast or crew members, to filling in for or hiring for random crew jobs if someone quits, etc. Also, yes, sometimes a producer may be able to influence the writing a bit if they're well-positioned within the hierarchy, and/or if they're naturally smart and creative people.

But other times a producing credit is mere formality–a person given additional credit just because their contract demanded it after a certain number of years, like if an actor has enough clout to request some other kind of title for prestige.

I don't know if Tyler Posey really helps in any of the numerous ways a producer might contribute, but he may try to add creative input beyond just showing up to play Scott. He does speak passionately about the show and looks comfortable around Jeff Davis. He also seems hyperactive and immature, in need of wrangling and maybe some coddling. It's possible he said, 'if you want Scott to stay on this show [playing a teen indefinitely], add a producer credit for me so when this is over my IMDB is more filled out and it looks like I'm more versatile than I am.' Bound by contract, he's been unable to do much else for many years, so his resume isn't as strong as many other comparable young actors. They've had so many actors abandon the show that they wouldn't really have a choice. Now they're just trying to wrap things up, so whatever.

I'm sure Tyler's suggested they make Scott a meatier character, but that doesn't mean the writers are talented enough to know how to build him a great arc that Tyler could pull off the way Dylan O'Brien can handle anything that's thrown his way. So they've shifted the show's theme to be more about Stiles as the hero with Scott as his loyal sidekick/brother.

Jeff Davis is the main producer and also the head writer on the show. And he seems to like wimpy Scott. So I don't think that Tyler Posey has anything to say about it. And I don't think that Dylan O'Brien told Jeff what to do with his character. Jeff saw that Stiles was the most popular character on the show. And the ratings led Jeff to build up the role. Ratings are money. And money is everything in Hollywood. And also in the world, unfortunately.

(Pay no attention to the man behind the curtain.)

Maybe 6A is focusing on Stiles (even with him not being there) and 6B will lean more on Scott.

Re: Tyler Posey is a producer on the show. Can't he ask the writers to..

His producer credit is just vanity. I've heard that with contract renegotiations, they needed to pay Dylan more money because of how well TMR did and his increasing popularity but couldn't really afford to bump up both he and Posey so they gave Posey the producer credit. This is all conjecture but typically in shows this is often the case when one actor is the break-out and it's not the "lead" character. They get compensated in other ways. So, this credit really has no to very little power.

At least Scott gets the fight the main villain at the end.
