The Funhouse : The creepiest scene…..

The creepiest scene…..

The little boy Joey is sleeping in the Carnie's office and his parents show up. The carnie tells the parents that he "washed him up real good," and the mom has this dark look on her face like she understands something disturbing. It's almost implying that the creepy carnie either molested the little boy or at the very least had some sort of eerie affection for him. The unanswered questions, the subtext you can read into it, the acting in that scene make it really creepy for me. What's your creepiest scene?

Re: The creepiest scene…..

That was indeed a creepy scene, especially since we never find out for sure what really happened. I think the scene I found the creepiest was when the killer unmasked and revealed his hideously disfigured face. May be an obvious choice, but I was not expecting that during my first time watching.

Yes! I thought he was a pedophile immediately. Was he the same man in the truck who offered him a ride?

The kid was awake when the guy found him, no? The guy said he washed him up real good and was touching his face tenderly. Very creepy.

Re: The creepiest scene…..

Yeah, I'm 99.9% sure that Joey got molested. Especially given his traumatized muteness and hearing his sister's voice in his head, "You'll never forget!"

Re: The creepiest scene…..

The creepiest scene is where the boy is stalking his sister, imo. He probably wanted to do it with her, weird kid.

Re: The creepiest scene…..

LOL, I thought the scene where he walked in the room during her shower was the creepiest part in the film. Who does that? I imagine he'll grow up to be a psycho himself. He clearly had enough issues beforehand so what happened to him at the carnival was REALLY going to mess him up.

Re: The creepiest scene…..

Haha yes! I came here to make a post about this!
The kid is like 9-10 years old and he was seeing sister totally naked in the shower. Like it was no big deal.

Re: The creepiest scene…..

Completely agree. The scene with the pedophile was truly creepy. Even the music used in the scene is kind of awkward and spooky. The man's smile, the "wash-up" sentence, the way he touches the boy's face... That was scary.

Hate is baggage, life's too short to be pissed off all the time.

Re: The creepiest scene…..

I'm watching the movie now. The mom seems more exasperated than anything and they even apologize to the carny for the trouble. As she takes him home she tiredly says, "I know a little boy who won't run away again". Doesn't seem like she thought he was harmed.

Re: The creepiest scene…..

And Joey played a mean and even perverted trick on his older sister. She told him she would get him back and it wasn't in the way that either of them expected.

I don't think the lush mother was too concerned about any untoward sexual affection from the carny towards her son. The implications of the creepiness of the carny was part of Hooper's subliminal flair as a horror director and he specialized in weird characters. He exploited his setting to the max.
