The Last Unicorn : The Red Bull

The Red Bull

I was 4 when this movie came out, so I only remember bits and pieces. One things I do remember is that I was PETRIFIED of The Red Bull. I used to have nightmares of him chasing me all the time. What a great movie though. Anyone else remember being scared of The Red Bull?

Re: The Red Bull

I don't. I grew up watching it. I introduced my little sister to it when she was around 3 and she loved it from the start! one of her favorite games to play is called "red bull" where someone is a the bull and he chases the rest of them around. Better than TAG I guess.

Re: The Red Bull

I was 7 when the movie came out and bought the 25 year anniversary addition some years back. My 3 year old finally picked it out of our book of DVDs and she likes it. I think the red bull concerns her, but doesn't frighten her. I do remember it being a scary part that freaked me out when I was younger. My daughter also has been choosing The Secret of NIMH from time to time.

Re: The Red Bull

Oh yeah, I think I can remember a nightmare I had too. Thing freaked me out!

Re: The Red Bull

17 and the red bull STILL scares the bajeebees out of me.

Re: The Red Bull

I was about 3 when TLU came out and my sister was just a baby. My grandmother would watch TLU with me and then when it showed the red bull, she would jump up and say "we have to save Jessie from the red bull!" I remember it being fun to go running through the house to my sister's room and see that she was fine. I guess the red bull never scared me, because I had it in my head that I could stop the red bull if I needed to? ^^

Isn't it funny that people were afraid of the Red Bullbut now he's a popular energy drink that gives you wings?

Re: The Red Bull

YES!!! holy *beep* the exact same thing happened with me. it took me a while to find out what movie spawned these nightmares, but now i've found it. i can't wait to watch this movie again to close the book on it for good.

Re: The Red Bull

yeah I was definitely frightened by the red bull too

Re: The Red Bull

I thought I was the only one..the Red Bull scared the *beep* out of me as a kid!

On the bed, on the floor, on a towel by the door, in the tub, in the car, up against the mini-bar

Re: The Red Bull

Yep I was terrified as well !
I remember telling my friends about it at primary school and one of them cried just when I was describing it haha

Re: The Red Bull

the red pull scared the piss out of me when i was little

Re: The Red Bull

Weird that he scared so many kids.
When I was this movie as a kid I loved the red bull. I thought he looked really cool and powerful. Then again, I also loved the Skeksis in the Dark Crystal. :)

Re: The Red Bull

I didn't think the Red Bull was that bad but the harpy freaked me out big time.

Re: The Red Bull

I agree, the harpy scared me too. Mainly because all the Red Bull did was drive you into the ocean, and you didn't die. The harpy actually killed! That's scary! Plus the three old lady breasts kind of freaked me out as well.

Re: The Red Bull

The Red Bull didn't bother me, but I was incredibly afraid of Mummy Fortuna and that vulture thing. AND that laughing skeleton. EEK!

Re: The Red Bull

Scared the hell out of me almost as much as the damn black wolf from The Neverending Story.

You vote for pizza and a movie, they vote to rape you with switchblades. That's voting.

Re: The Red Bull

Same with me, really sinister looking and effective in a childhood favourite. And I agree with the above poster, Gmork from NeverEnding Story is scary, I had nightmares from him when I first saw it, and while I absolutely love the movie, I am still scared of him.

Re: The Red Bull

Same, but then, i had nightmares from Willow when i was a kid :/

Re: The Red Bull

Really? The Black Wolf was awesome! Okay, he was scary, but he was a good looking mercenary wolf.

I think the thing that makes the Red Bull so scary was how much the red contrasted the color tones around him. He was very imposing in his scenes, filling the entire screen with bright red and licking flames of fire.

Re: The Red Bull

I got scared by the black wolf in TNS, too. I still hate that part and I'm 40. LOL

Re: The Red Bull

Yeah, that wolf is rather chill inducing. And that voice! I think the not-quite-synced-up-to-the-audio thing when he talked made him even more ominous too!

Re: The Red Bull

Lord of the Ring's Balrog made me think of what the Red Bull could look like if it was brought to life via live action.

Re: The Red Bull

Not so much afraid, but I adapted the concept into a Bull like monster with sea-green eyes that could turn a person to stone, like a Cockatrice, that would attack and drive anything that didn't look into its eyes into the river near our town, especially horses, as a tale for kids. Then, some years later, after I essentially forgot about the movie, I was walking in a far part of the forest by the river when I found a large boulder at the tree line, on top of which sat a bull's skull that had been filled with green shale so that it gave the eye sockets an appearance of having eyes just like the creature and horns painted red like the creature had into the story.
Just a hundred yards away, on the riverbank, was the half buried skeleton of a horse.

It really shook me that either someone had taken my stories seriously enough to make and leave something like that in the forest, or whatever other thing could have explained it. But it was an interesting experience.

It was still there when I had last looked.

Re: The Red Bull

I was a kid who wasn't scared of much when it came to movies. And while it didn't give me nightmares or anything, that darn Bull was honestly scary as all get out, but in a good way! I loved being scared by him! He still kind of makes the hair stand up on the back of my neck!

Re: The Red Bull

The Red Bull really didn't frighten me when I was a kid. But, I can easily understand why he'd be terrifying to other people.

Re: The Red Bull

I first saw this film in the theater when I was ten. The Red Bull scared the hell out of me!

Well, after the Unicorn business went down the toilet he started a line of energy drink. And guess what: he wasn't that creative and call it "Red Bull".
