I agree. This film is a total blast. You will be happy to know that those fine folks at Anchor Bay finally released an official Region 1 DVD on a doublebill with the sequel.
"We're all part Shatner/And part James Dean/Part Warren Oates/And Steven McQueen"
"We're all part Shatner/And part James Dean/Part Warren Oates/And Steven McQueen"
This movie rocks!!!!
It has everything I want in a movie: beautiful locations, humor, good acting, good music, hot girls, etc.
The movie was well edited and moves at a fun, brisk pace. There are rarely any boring or slow parts. It is just an enjoyable movie.
And unlike the typical T&A movie of its time, it also has a plot and effectively builds to a climax in the scene where Hunter oversteps his boundaries and must be humiliated and taught a lesson.
I wish more movies like this were made instead of depressing garbage like Million Dollar Baby or violent *beep* like Natural Born Killers and Kill Bill.
I live in Chicago where the weather is often cold and gray, such as today. And whenever I want to feel uplifted, I just pop in my Hardbodies DVD and I am transported to sunny southern California and quickly cheered up.
I bought a bootleg DVD copy on Ebay a couple years ago. Someone from Japan simply took a good VHS copy and transferred it to a DVD. While the quality of bootlegs such as mine are pretty good, it would be nice if the film company released a high quality version on DVD-hopefully with lots of extras.
While Hardbodies is not oscar material, it is definately a fun movie to pop in at any time. I watch my copy very often-more than any other movie. Let's pray for an official release. In the meantime, I highly recommend you pick up a bootleg version.
