I'll never watch that version againit veered far too much into pretension & became rather dull.

The French plantation scene in particular ruined the pacing of the film and diverted away from the story and its impact. The original edit was tight and kept the narrative cohesive.
Brando saved that picture. Milius' original ending would have been awful.

Brando rewrote the script for Coppola and Milius' ending was a big action piece with shoot out at the end including helicopters to the rescue something like that).

That movie is terrible, along with the original version. Very overrated, one of the few movies where I really don't understand why it's so critically acclaimed.
