A Chorus Line : Which Soundtrack Do You Prefer?
Re: Which Soundtrack Do You Prefer?
Why doesn't Cassie sing Let me Dance for you in the bradway recordings?? Was this song just for the film??
Musicals are what feelings sound like
Re: Which Soundtrack Do You Prefer?
Yeah, it was just for the movie. Apparently, the song in the mirror wasn't condusive for a film.

Re: Which Soundtrack Do You Prefer?
For me, absolutely no question: the Broadway cast album is streets ahead.
I've only just watched the film for the first time, and I really disliked most of its mussical numbers. It's not the fault of the cast; for me, the problem is in what was done to the songs in plotting the film, the way they were restructured and given new (very dated!) arrangements. Of course I missed what I was familiar with from the stage version, but also ... well, a lot of the songs in the movie simply aren't very good. The movie turned many of them into performance pieces for the disco-set audience, and to my mind almostly completely lost that sense of character exposition and self-disclosure that the stage version musical numbers have.
You might very well think that. I couldn't possibly comment.

Re: Which Soundtrack Do You Prefer?
Better sound quality on the cast recording. You have to turn it up high to hear the soundtrack. Some songs I like better on one; some I like better on the other. That's why I have both of them.
Which Soundtrack Do You Prefer?
But, I do like Cassie's Let Me Dance For You and What I Did For Love from the movie more than Broadway.
Overall, I think it's a push. But if I had to choose, I'd say Broadway's version because I like their At The Ballet better.
Anyone else?
