The Terminal : Why didn't he just leave?

Why didn't he just leave?

This is a cute, funny movie, I just don't understand why Tom Hanks character doesn't just walk out? I would assume he would be picked up, but then either three things would happen. Either he would be placed in jail for holding, he would be transported back, or they would give him a Visa. It just doesn't make sense to me.

Re: Why didn't he just leave?

Maybe it just wasn't in his nature to break the rules? I mean, he returned carts just to get his 25-cent reward for each cart just so he'd have honest money to buy himself food. I saw him as an honest man. "They tell me to wait; I wait." That's what he kept repeating.

Re: "Either three things would happen." Actually, only one thing was sure to happen. He was going to get picked up for holding by someone else. That was the point. Dixon told him a lie that he would be "free" to leave the terminal within that 5-minute window where the guards wouldn't be in their post, because he wanted Viktor to step out that door -- THUS breaking the law, and then he'd become "somebody else's problem." Because as it stood, with Viktor staying in the terminal and technically not breaking any rules, Dixon couldn't do anything about it (which drove him nuts).

You are right, thats what I think too. But then he lied about the medicines that they were for goat of that person. However they were for his father -breaking a rule, right ?

Anyway just saw movie again today after a long time, its a pretty nice entertaining movie.

Re: Why didn't he just leave?

Would it really be necessary to show that?

Besides, you have to get through security to exit the airport from arrival if you're arriving from abroad.

Limit of the Willing Suspension of Disbelief: directly proportional to its awesomeness.

He needs to get the signature for his coffee collection. He doesn't want to risk losing that opportunity
