Casualties of War : Practically unbearable viewing

Practically unbearable viewing

This film has to be one of the most truly horrific examples of sheer and utter cruelty committed against another human being that has ever been put on screen. It's pretty much unbearable to witness what this innocent young woman has to go through in this film. DePalma truly held back absolutely nothing in the making of this. He practically punishes and batters the viewer right to his/her emotional core during the entire course of the film. No mercy on DePalma's part.

Re: Practically unbearable viewing

It's definitely a movie that you can't 'unsee'. I knew I could only watch this movie once and thought I was done with it only to have to watch it years later in school.

Re: Practically unbearable viewing

Damn are you serious? They actually make high school kids watch THIS film in classes? How the f'k does one even go on with the rest of the day in school after teachers make them view a film this heartbreakingly devastating and tragic I wonder? I mean is showing it in class meant to be some sort of horrible punishment on the part of teachers against undisciplined students or something like that?

My strong advice to any student(s) who know this film is going to be shown during one of their classes is to definitely skip that particular period and go find somewhere in your school where you more than likely won't get caught ditching class. You'll be thankful you did believe me, cause this film will be in your damn head, and perhaps even in your very soul, for quite sometime afterwards.

Re: Practically unbearable viewing

Not sure if they still do but it was over 20 years ago that I saw it in school.

Re: Practically unbearable viewing

During my high school English class, our instructor brought in slides of people who committed suicide. As to what those slides had to do with English, I don't remember.

Re: Practically unbearable viewing

Maybe they were all people who took his class lol.

Re: Practically unbearable viewing

When you said you'd seen the movie "in school", I somehow assumed it was a college class. Was I wrong?

Re: Practically unbearable viewing

Yeah I saw it in high school either my junior or senior year.

Re: Practically unbearable viewing

It is the only movie I have ever left the theater for. I vomited in the restroom and would not go back in. I am not a squeamish person, but this hit me very hard.
